Our Favorite Websites
When our website visitors are visiting a wine region, I often receive emails asking "Which wineries should I visit while I'm in this area?". I always offer my personal recommendations, but I also refer them to the best wine travel resources in the area. In this article, I would like to share the websites that we regularly use when planning our wine travels. Ohio Wine Travel: We use two great resources for Ohio wine travel. www.OhioWines.org is the website of the Ohio Wine Producers Association. Most Ohio wineries are listed on this website as well as information about wine trail events and the Vintage Ohio wine festival. Another resource is www.ohgrapes.org. This is the website of the Ohio Grape Industries. You can find plenty of Ohio wine information and links to most Ohio wineries. Indiana Wine Travel: Two more great resources for Indiana wine travel. www.IndianaWineries.com is a wonderful website with an interactive map. The map is a great help when planning Indiana wine trips. Our second Indiana resource is www.IndianaWines.org. This website offers photos and detailed information about most of the wineries in Indiana. Michigan Wine Travel: Our resource when traveling to Michigan is www.MichiganWines.com. It is the website of the Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council. Virtually all the information you need to plan your Michigan wine adventure can be found here. Pennsylvania Wine Travel: The official website of the Pennsylvania Wine Association is www.PennsylvaniaWine.com. The interactive map gives you an up-close look at Pennsylvania's seven wine regions. Virginia Wine Travel: We use www.VirginiaWines.org. This website offers an alphabetical listing of all the wineries in Virginia, along with a downloadable Virginia Wine Guide that serves as a great reference. New York Wine Travel: The website www.NewYorkWines.org is sponsored by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation. Here you can find links to all the New York wineries and also a forum where you can mingle with other New York wine lovers. Ontario Wine Travel: At the official website of the Wine Council of Ontario http://WinesOfOntario.org, you can take animated tours of each of Ontario's wine regions. You'll also find a cool Ontario wine and food matching tool. West Virginia Wine Travel: Planning a winery adventure in West Virginia can be complicated. There is no official site for the wineries of West Virginia, but the West Virginia Department of Agriculture does offer a listing of many of the state's wineries at http://www.wvagriculture.org/Brochures/Foods%20and%20Things/Wineries.htm. There are no helpful maps or guides, but it's a good starting point. Kentucky Wine Travel: I have yet to find a good resource that solely lists the wineries of Kentucky. I haven't even found the Kentucky Department of Agriculture site to be very helpful. When traveling in Kentucky, I use the two interactive maps listed below - along with some general yellow page searches on MSN or Yahoo. It would be advantageous for wineries and wine travelers alike if the Kentucky wineries would bond together to develop a website. All Wine Travel: These two websites feature interactive national maps pinpointing winery locations across the United States. They are a great resource if you are searching for wineries in a specific location. 1. http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/interest.php?brandID=WINERIES ...and don't forget about www.WineryAdventures.com. We go to great lengths to search out every single winery in the areas that we visit. Big or small...some that are not even listed on the above websites. We always give our honest assessment and let you know about our personal experience at each winery. I hope we have become a trusted resource for those visiting area wineries.
