...and a Box of Your Best
Wine, Please
We recently visited a winery where
they offered several of their wines in a box. This was the first
time we had come across this on our travels. I wasn't sure how to
react. I'm finally used to synthetic corks. I'm still slightly
apprehensive when I see a screw cap...though I am warming up to
the idea. But, wine in a box? I'll have to put some thought into
that one.
Maybe it's because I have bad memories
of wine in a box. When I was very young, I attended a holiday
party offering an open bar. I went back to the bar many times
ordering glass after glass of the boxed Zinfandel. I was painfully
ill the next day, and since, I have looked away every time I pass
by the boxed wine at my local grocery store.
There are many good reasons to put
wine in a box. It's more economical than bottled wine. It
dispenses easily - just sit it on your refrigerator shelf and
press the handy push button. It also stays fresh longer because
the plastic bag inside the box collapses, keeping air from getting
to the wine.
There are plenty of good reasons to
buy wine in a box...but am I ready for that? This wine drinker
doesn't think so. For me, wine is sophistication. Wine is an
elegant way to celebrate - to bring friends together for laughter,
good times and cherished memories. Wine is sophistication,
elegance, friendship and memories...and I'm not ready to put my
memories in a box.
