Wine Recommendations Sweet Summer Sipping Reds August evenings are a great time to sit on your porch or deck and sip on some sweet red wine. Below are our top five wine recommendations for August: "Sweet Summer Sipping Reds". 1. Watkins Red: Arcadian Estate Winery in Rock Stream New York. Made from the Rosette grape, this wine is not overly sweet. Its light, fruity character makes it an awesome sipping wine. 2. Red Mountain Laurel: Chateau Morrisette Winery in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. This blend of Native American grapes exhibits flavors of fresh grapes and cherries. A marvelous wine to share on the patio with friends. 3. Vista Red: Brown County Winery in Nashville, Indiana. This wine, made from 100% Concord grapes, is pure Heaven on a summer evening. A very unique Concord that is sure to please. 4. Sweet Chambourcin: Montgomery Underground Winery in Rural Valley, Pennsylvania. This sweet version of Chambourcin is so delicious. It helped me appreciate the Chambourcin grape in drier varieties of wine. 5. Valley Red: Moyer's Vineyards Winery & Restaurant in Manchester, Ohio. This wonderful wine is not too dry and not too sweet....just absolutely perfect. We spent a summer evening sipping this wine in the Moyer's Vineyard overlooking the Ohio River. These wines that were previously on the list have fallen from our top-five favorites as we have visited more wineries....but they are still clear winners: Pennsylvania Sweetheart: Lapic Winery in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. This is the second time this winery has been featured in our monthly wine recommendations....and this time with Pennsylvania Sweetheart. This wine was originally made only for Valentine's Day, but it was so popular they started making it year-round. A great summer sipper! Reggae Red: Easley Winery in Indianapolis, Indiana. A party in a bottle, this fun wine is sweet, sweet, sweet. The perfect wine to serve when inviting friends over for a cook-out. Lake Erie Concord: Georgetown Vineyards in Cambridge, Ohio. A straight-forward Concord. No surprises...but plenty of enjoyment. |
